7 Best Real Estate Agent Books For Beginners
For new agents, there are many excellent real estate books available. And when it comes to being a top producer in the real estate industry, there is always something new to learn. Everything from learning time management skills to understanding the art of sales to developing new habits will play a part in helping you reach the next level in your real estate career.
Reading is a great way to hone existing skills and pick up brand-new ones. Good real estate books will help you improve your abilities, learn new tactics, and foster relationships with customers. Others may even assist you in creating daily routines that will boost your productivity and lower your stress.
Here are some excellent real estate books that are available for new (or struggling) agents, whether you read a chapter each morning, listen to an audiobook during your commute, or binge-read on the weekends.
1. Your First Year in Real Estate, 2nd Ed.: Making the Transition from Total Novice to Successful Professional by Dirk Zeller
The fact that your first year in real estate will likely be the most challenging for you should not come as a surprise. According to NAR, 87% of real estate agents quit before they make it five years. This is largely the result of the expectations that new agents have when they first enter the field. Dirk Zeller outlines reasonable expectations for new agents in his book, Your First Year in Real Estate, and provides wise advice on how they should spend each day of the year. He also shares some of the common errors that rookie agents make in an effort to save you some time and effort.
I believe this book is a solid choice for any person looking to enter the real estate field or a new agent that is looking to take their career to the next level.
2. The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: 30th Anniversary Edition (The Covey Habits Series) Paperback – Special Edition, May 19, 2020 by Stephen R. Covey
I was particularly struck by the book’s emphasis on making decisions based on a set of principles. Establishing your own principles can be the first step in finding your purpose. The fact is, if you want to feel successful, you must uphold your values.
If you keep doing the same thing and set up principles, it becomes easier to move past those business failures, change course, and move toward your end goals.
3. Rich Dad Poor Dad: What the Rich Teach Their Kids About Money That the Poor and Middle Class Do Not! by Robert T. Kiyosaki
This book is a must-read for any new business owner, whether you are in real estate or not. As a matter of fact, I give it as a gift to any new high school or college graduate.
This will alter how you view money, business, and your future plans. I strongly advise reading it first if you haven’t before delving into the plethora of other Rich Dad books.
4. Influence: The Power of Persuasion by Robert Cialdini
This book examines all of the strategies used by salespeople to sway and convince potential customers. You’ll learn how people think as well as better communication techniques to influence how others perceive you. You will learn a variety of skills, including how to read and interpret body language, tell compelling stories, and take advantage of social proof.
Simply put, it’s a great tool for determining how people think and getting them to behave in an ethical manner. You should be well-known, liked, and trusted by potential customers. This book will show you the way.
5. The Daily Stoic: 366 Meditations on Wisdom, Perseverance, and the Art of Living by Ryan Holiday
This book is a must for everyone! It is the one book that I read every single day. I highlight important passages and share them with my team.
Every day of the year, there are inspirational quotes, historical anecdotes, thought-provoking commentary, and a helpful glossary of Greek terms.
Stoicism, at its core, makes clear what we can and cannot control. It shows us that, even though we have no control over the things that happen to us, we do have control over how we perceive them. It teaches us that while we are unable to control our feelings, we are, however, able to control how we react to them. It teaches us that all feelings are internal and that we have control over how they come to be. You’ll read this book cover to cover because it’s so good.
6. Atomic Habits: An Easy & Proven Way to Build Good Habits & Break Bad Ones by James Clear
Atomic Habits will reshape the way you think about progress and success and give you the tools and strategies you need to transform your habits.
As a new agent, you will learn how to make time for new habits (even when life gets crazy), overcome a lack of motivation and willpower, design your environment to make success easier, and get back on track when you fall off course.
7. Real Estate Prospecting: Create a Million-Dollar Life Through Relationships, Online Leads, Technology, and Social Media by Tristan Ahumada
Last but not least, we had to mention Tristan’s upcoming book, which will be published in the spring of 2022. It is considered the holy book of prospecting, and you will mark it up, dog-ear it, and refer to it whenever you need a little boost.
Tristan offers a thorough analysis of the strategies and tools available to new (and seasoned) agents who want to succeed at the top levels of the industry.
